Freeze-dried meat for dogs and cats

Freeze-dried meat for dogs and cats

Freeze-dried meat can be used as a snack or reward as part of a BARF diet, or as a replacement feed, for example on vacation. Just like conventional fresh meat, freeze-dried meat contains the ingredients that are important for dogs and cats. Nutrients and vitamins are retained to the maximum extent even when freeze-dried. The meat can be fed in the dried state or first rehydrated with a little lukewarm water.

What characterizes freeze-dried meat?

Freeze-dried meat consists of fresh meat that has been subjected to a special treatment: the liquid is removed from the fresh meat using a special process. Freeze-drying preserves both the characteristic taste and the nutrients in the meat without making it tough or hard after rehydration. The end product is ready to be fed in its dried state, for example as a snack or reward at the dog playground. Alternatively, the products can be rehydrated with warm water for around 10 minutes. Try out what your pet likes best!

Other characteristics of freeze-dried meat are that it has a shelf life of up to two years and contains just as many nutrients as fresh meat, but is significantly lighter. The following rule of thumb can be used: 1 gram of freeze-dried meat = approximately 4 grams of fresh meat.

In addition, freeze-dried meat does not require additional cooling, but can be stored at room temperature. Salmonella or bacteria therefore pose no risk.

Freeze-dried meat on vacation

Meat, which is a real BARF alternative, especially on vacation. The low storage requirements and lower weight and space requirements compared to fresh meat ensure that freeze-dried meat can very well replace the animal portion of BARF feeding, especially on trekking tours or longer vacation stays. Both the muscle meat and offal are available in freeze-dried form and can either be fed to dogs or cats while still dried or after rehydration. Without rehydration, one gram of freeze-dried meat corresponds to four grams of fresh meat, which is why storage and feeding are very effective.

In any case, we recommend that you introduce your pet to the products before your vacation by giving them snacks or replacing entire meals.

Is it well tolerated?

When it comes to freeze-dried meat for dogs and cats, you may be asking yourself: "Can my animal tolerate it?" In this regard, we can say that existing intolerances do not disappear through freeze-drying. However, if an animal has not had any problems with fresh meat before, it is rather unlikely that freeze-dried meat will suddenly trigger a reaction. If an animal refuses the dried food, you can first rehydrate it or try to get the dog or cat used to it in a similar way to when starting a BARF diet. Especially with freeze-dried meat for cats, a certain period of adjustment can be necessary and useful.

You can get meat and offal in our BARF shop in many different varieties, from classic beef to shrimp or horse meat. This means that even animals with food intolerances will definitely get something tasty in their bowl!
