3 reasons for BARF: why this diet is so popular - haustierkost.de

There are many reasons for BARFing - but few other topics divide opinion as much as biologically appropriate raw feeding. However, there are also reasons for BARFing that can help dogs, cats and ferrets, apart from the observations of many animal lovers. We would therefore like to present three good reasons for BARFing here.

1. Reason for BARF: Reports from pet owners

The first of the reasons for BARFing that we would like to explain here is the reason why many pet owners hear about this diet in the first place. Pet owners who are BARFing for the first time naturally want to talk about their experiences. And BARFing usually does well here. We often hear that BARFing leads to a number of improvements in the affected pet's body odor, teeth and coat, as well as a general increase in the need for exercise.

There are very simple reasons for these developments. Firstly, both dry and wet food must be made to last for a longer period of time during production. This is achieved by preservatives contained in the food, which then naturally have to find their way through the dog or cat's body before they are excreted. This burden on the metabolism can lead to a more intense body odor and less attractive fur. Dental care with BARF is usually provided by regularly feeding raw bones. The friction of the bone material on the teeth reduces plaque and tartar. A pleasant side effect: the calcium supply is also provided via the bones in this step. Please never feed cooked or otherwise heated bones! The changed structure is much more prone to splintering, which can be dangerous for the dog.

2nd reason for BARF: ideal control

The second of our reasons for BARFing deals with what ultimately ends up in the bowl. When feeding BARF meat and the other components of a balanced diet, you as the pet owner have full control over your animal's diet. You no longer have to rely on opaque ingredient lists on dry and wet food, and you can also specifically avoid food allergies: You can see exactly what you have in front of you. This naturally also applies to your animal, and can be unusual, especially for cats. So if you are ordering BARF for the first time, you should try out whether and how your animal accepts the food. If your dog or cat is not eating, you can, for example, offer smaller bites or lightly fry the meat.

3. Reason for BARF: Transparency in price

The third of our reasons for BARFing is quickly introduced with the popular question "Is BARFing expensive?" While BARFing is a little more expensive than dry food, it is about the same price as wet food for a balanced diet - without any fillers and without having to worry about what might be in your pet's food bowl. In short: you get exactly what you pay for. So whether you BARF your dog, ferret or cat , no other food can offer you this level of security.

These are our three reasons for BARFing. We could name more - such as the variety that your animal experiences with a BARF diet. Compared to other feeding methods, feeding with BARF certainly involves some effort, especially at the beginning, but this becomes less and less with routine and experience and can be more than offset by the potential benefits.
