Environmental allergy

Reading time < 1 minute

The environmental allergy in dogs and cats is triggered by normally harmless substances, microorganisms and plants. People are also familiar with this disease. The environmental allergy in dogs and cats usually appears after contact with pollen, weeds, dust or mites. So-called atopic dermatitis often occurs in summer, when plant growth and pollen levels are particularly high. At the same time, the environmental allergy in dogs and cats can lead to reactions all year round, for example when dust accumulates in the house.

Environmental allergies in dogs can be recognized by symptoms such as redness and severe itching. Cats often lick the affected areas until they become bald. It is also common for the four-legged friends to scratch their own skin. The head, paws, groin and stomach are particularly affected, as these come into contact with the allergens more frequently.

Veterinary practices use two approaches to treat environmental allergies in dogs and cats: immunotherapy and symptomatic therapy. Immunotherapy ideally means that the allergens no longer trigger any reactions, so that your pet can walk through pollen, dust, etc. in a relaxed manner. Symptomatic therapy relieves the redness and itching as best as possible. Sprays such as VeaVet JuckEX forte and special food oils for dogs are ideal for this. In the case of allergies and intolerances, we always recommend close consultation with a veterinary practice in your area.
