Cod liver oil can be an important source of omega-3 fatty acids. These support your four-legged friends' organism, for example by excreting water through the skin or as a component of cell membranes. It is therefore important to always ensure that there is an appropriate amount of fatty acids in the BARF . Cod liver oil has become a popular supplementary feed for dogs and cats because it provides vitamins A and D in addition to omega fatty acids. At the same time, this is the crux of cod liver oil: while there is often a deficiency in fatty acids, vitamins A and D are usually already absorbed through feed such as fruit and vegetable mixtures . Adding cod liver oil can therefore lead to an excess, which in turn affects your four-legged friends' livers.
So before you use cod liver oil for dogs and cats, we recommend our salmon oil, among other things. Half to two teaspoons per day, mixed into BARF dog food or cat food, is enough to provide your pet with the necessary fatty acids. Alternatively, you can feed your four-legged friends directly with fish, which is usually rich in omega fatty acids. Of course, cod liver oil can also prove to be the right solution for your pet. It is best to get information and advice about the oil from a veterinary practice or from an animal nutritionist.
