Tripe

Tripe

Reading time < 1 minute

In the kitchen, tripe is the name given to the tripe of ruminants, primarily cattle. These innards are extremely important for BARFing dogs , which is why we list them separately in our BARF calculator . This is mainly due to the dog-friendly composition of tripe. Green tripe, for example, gives dogs various probiotic cultures as well as water-soluble vitamins and valuable minerals through the residues of pre-digested plant remains. Green tripe has a corresponding effect on the intestinal flora of dogs and, due to its low protein content, is also suitable as food for healthy older dogs.

When we talk about tripe, we usually mean tripe that has been cleaned and boiled for several hours. This is then also suitable for humans and is a real speciality in many places. In contrast, tripe in BARF dog food is fed practically untreated - the tripe is roughly cleaned with water - which preserves the probiotic cultures and at the same time retains the significant green color. In addition, this untreated tripe often smells much stronger.
