BARF on holiday: how to do it - haustierkost.de

BARFing on vacation is often a challenge due to the special nature of BARF feeding. Especially on longer vacations or trekking trips, raw feeding as it can be done at home is usually not practical because the freshness of BARF meat and other animal components cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, other solutions are needed to be able to implement BARF on vacation. Here we would like to present you with some possible alternatives.

Alternatives to BARF on vacation

Compared to classic BARF on vacation, canned meat requires significantly less demanding storage. At haustierkost.de, this is made exclusively from fresh slaughter products approved for food production. The meat is also free from artificial flavors, colors and preservatives. The cans are therefore ideal if you are looking for a BARF alternative for vacation that does not require special cooling. Only opened cans should be stored in the refrigerator or in a cool box and used up quickly.

In addition to canned meat, there is also the other extreme BARF alternative for vacations - freeze-dried meat . This is also a good substitute for fresh meat for vacations and can be transported very space-efficiently: only a quarter of the traditional amount of fresh meat is needed to cover a dog's energy needs with freeze-dried meat. It is also very suitable as a small snack between meals or as a reward. This BARF alternative does not require refrigeration and can be soaked in water or fed dry, depending on the animal's taste.

Finally, high-quality dry food or wet food is also a good alternative to BARF on vacation. Grain-free dry food in particular contains hardly any fillers compared to conventional dry food and is very easy to store, which makes longer vacation trips easier.

Alternative to BARF on vacation: try it out beforehand

No matter which alternative to BARF you want to use on vacation - be sure to try it out a few days in advance. This way you have enough time to find another solution if the dog does not accept the food. If necessary, you can also add other elements that provide variety, such as grainy cream cheese, low-fat quark or fresh fruit and vegetables. These can also be fed in pieces or slices if you only want to adjust the texture of the food.

BARF on vacation: Conclusion

Which food ends up in the bowl as an alternative to the classic BARF diet on vacation is entirely up to you and the dog's taste. One thing is certain: if you consistently feed your dog BARF for most of the year, two or three weeks of a different diet on vacation will not leave any lasting marks. However, as mentioned above, you should definitely change the feeding a few days before you start your trip. This way your dog can get used to the new food and you will have one less thing to worry about when you start your vacation. In our BARF shop you will find canned meat, freeze-dried meat, grain-free dry food and our BARF2GO, perfect for vacation.
