dental care

Reading time < 1 minute

Dental care is very important for cats and dogs. After all, our four-legged friends can also suffer from inflammation or diseases such as FORL. So to keep cats and dogs healthy and to counteract inflammation, do the same as with humans: pay attention to dental care. For cats and dogs, the right food is often enough. When you order your BARF , put something for your four-legged friend to chew on in your shopping cart. This includes simple dry food as well as cat treats or freeze-dried dog snacks . Bones for dogs that your faithful companion can chew on are also suitable for dental care. The hard structure of the food rubs the plaque off the teeth, preventing tartar formation. In addition, there is a certain gum massage, which strengthens the entire periodontal ligament. The chewing muscles also benefit from the animals' repeated chewing.

You can also support the dental care of cats and dogs with special toothbrushes. Dogs' teeth in particular appreciate having the visible outer surfaces cleaned twice a week. Cats are a bit more abrasive than brushes, but if you get the animals used to the procedure when they are kittens, they are usually quite easy to handle.

If diseases such as periodontitis in dogs or FORL in cats appear despite dental care, you can usually tell by the behavior of your animals. They are usually reluctant to eat, salivate more and show discoloration on their teeth or visible hard plaque. They also have red gums and often have bad breath. In these cases, do not give them dry food or dental care with a special toothbrush and go to a veterinary practice. There you can discuss what to do next.
