Urea is of great importance for dogs, cats and all other mammals for numerous biological processes. For example, urea helps the body metabolize proteins. Urea is usually measured in dogs and cats to examine the so-called kidney values. If this value is elevated, the kidneys are largely no longer able to detoxify the body properly. This causes the urea to spread in dogs and cats, causing reactions and the urea to be converted into ammonia. This has a toxic effect on the body's cells and can lead to inflammation in the digestive tract. The consequences range from simple bad breath to vomiting and diarrhea.
