Reading time < 1 minute

BARF blood can be an important food supplement for both dogs and cats . You can add a small amount of blood from beef , horse , lamb or rabbit to BARF dog food so that your pet receives some additional vitamins , minerals and trace elements. In the wild, this is completely natural, as carnivores ate directly from their prey and therefore also ingested blood.

BARF blood contains particularly high levels of vitamins B3, B5 and B6. BARF blood also combines minerals such as chlorine and sodium as well as trace elements such as copper, fluorine and manganese. The blood also contains valuable amino acids for your BARF . In humans and animals, blood serves as a carrier of all of these substances in order to ensure the functions of various body tissues. This is why it is often referred to as a liquid organ. The high level of important supplements in BARF blood, which is only supplemented with two percent sea salt or gelatine during production, is therefore logical.

To find the right amount of blood in BARF, base your diet on the size of your animal. When BARFing a dog weighing up to 15 kilograms, add around 100 to 150 grams per week. For dogs weighing up to 30 kilograms, increase the amount to around 200 to 300 grams, while large dogs weighing 30 kilograms or more can tolerate between 300 and 750 grams of BARF blood per week. When BARFing your cat, base your diet on the amount of food your cat eats. Around five to ten percent of the food is recommended as blood in the BARF.
