The hemp plant is an ancient crop and was already cultivated in ancient times to produce fiber. Its fruits were used as food and medicine. The oil extracted from the fruits is not only tasty, but also nutritionally valuable. By using low-THC hemp varieties as the raw material, hemp oil is practically free of intoxicating ingredients.
What makes hemp oil so interesting for nutrition?
Hemp oil is characterized by a high content of the essential fatty acids - linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3) in a ratio of about 4:1 to 6:1.
Hemp oil also contains oleic acid and rare fatty acids such as gamma-linolenic and stearidonic acid, as well as useful components such as vitamin E, carotenoids, phytosterols, phospholipids and minerals. Gamma-linolenic acid, which is also found in evening primrose and borage oil, has an anti-inflammatory effect, especially on skin diseases. It can have a positive effect on dry, flaky and itchy skin. Stearidonic acid is a direct precursor to EPA, from which the body also produces anti-inflammatory mediators.
What effect does feeding hemp oil to dogs have?
Feeding hemp oil can have a positive effect on the skin and fur. In addition, feeding oils ensures the supply of essential fatty acids and can have a positive effect on cell metabolism and the immune system.

Like all fats that are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, hemp oil spoils quite quickly. It is therefore recommended to store it in the refrigerator and use an opened bottle within 6 to 8 weeks. Hemp oil should never be heated to high temperatures. The chlorophyll content gives cold-pressed hemp oil a greenish color.
