Christmas gifts for dogs - haustierkost.de

Christmas presents for dogs are part of the celebration of love in many families with pets. A special treat, a small supply of dog biscuits or a festive BARF menu, for example with reindeer or goose, make Christmas a special occasion for the animal family members too. Read here which dog treats your dog might like at Christmas and which treats for humans you should avoid with your dog.

Christmas gifts for dogs: tasty, practical or both?

When it comes to Christmas presents for dogs, there are basically two categories that your pet will immediately appreciate: tasty dog treats and new toys - in the best case, you can even combine both, for example in a new sniffing mat or another intelligence toy with a corresponding reward.

A homemade Advent calendar with small BARF surprises is also a good idea for this time of year. If you want to pack the portions individually and display or hang them up from December to Christmas, you can use items with a long shelf life, such as dried meat for dogs or small pieces of freeze-dried dog snacks . These should then be packed as tightly as possible in small bags. On special occasions, such as Advent Sundays, larger BARF chews or cheese chew sticks can be given as a supplement - these also contribute to the dog's dental care through intensive chewing and gnawing.

dog biscuits at Christmas

Your dog will certainly be happy about delicious dog biscuits at Christmas. In our recipe section you can read how to bake two types of dog biscuits : dog biscuits without grains and dog biscuits with liver sausage. The dog biscuits will keep for a few days to a week when refrigerated and can therefore be baked in advance. The big advantage of dog biscuits: they only have a few ingredients and can be made in a short time. While you nibble on Christmas biscuits over the holidays, your dog has its own supply of tasty treats.

So you see, there are many ways to give your dog little joys during the Christmas season!

Your dog should avoid these snacks (not just at Christmas)

Dog treats at Christmas are a wonderful thing - but it is difficult when the pet has its eye on its owner's supplies. You should therefore not give your dog anything from the Christmas plate, because many of the treats that we look forward to at Christmas time are difficult for dogs to digest or even toxic:

  • Of course, chocolate is also a danger for dogs during the Christmas season because it contains theobromine - a substance that is toxic to dogs. As a rule of thumb, the darker the chocolate, the more theobromine it contains.
  • Biscuits and sweets containing xylitol are also not suitable for dogs. Xylitol is becoming increasingly popular as a sugar substitute for humans, but it is also toxic for dogs. Supplies should therefore be stored safely.
  • Citrus fruits, such as mandarins or oranges, are real Christmas classics - but unfortunately only for humans. A dog may be able to tolerate small amounts, but larger portions lead to digestive problems.
  • Grapes and raisins are also taboo for dogs as they are poisonous - they can lead to kidney failure. So no matter how delicious the Christmas Stollen may smell to the dog, it is better not to let it get between the teeth.

Which BARF treats can you use to give your dog a little treat during the Christmas season? You will of course find a large selection in our BARF shop - so you and your dog are well prepared for the contemplative time of the year!
