Paw care for dogs in summer - haustierkost.de

Paw care for dogs is particularly important in summer, as surfaces such as asphalt and stone can get very hot. What can be painful for us humans when we walk barefoot is also unpleasant for our four-legged friends. That's why we're devoting this guide to paw care so that your dog can roam the world carefree in summer.

The right tool

For paw care on dogs, we generally recommend a pair of fur scissors, a foot bath and some cream for the paw pads. The specially rounded scissors with blunt ends prevent cuts if your pet moves unexpectedly. The bath is pretty self-explanatory: you fill it with water, soak the paws a little and clean them. The balm also serves as additional protection, which is a pleasant heat protection for the dog's paws in the dry summer months. This care also counteracts small cracks or the pads drying out.

Paw care for dogs

Proper cleaning and care for our pets' paws is actually very easy. First, check the paws to see if your four-legged friend has stepped on splinters or thorns. Ticks also like to bite between the toes, which is something you should always keep in mind when caring for your dog's paws in the summer. These are best removed with tick tweezers or tick pliers.

Then it's time to clean the paws. Use lukewarm water to clean the pads, toes and the spaces between the toes. This will remove visible dirt and also get rid of invisible residues. In summer, this often includes pesticides or fertilizers that are spread in public gardens, parks or simply in neighbors' hedges. That's why caring for your dog's paws is particularly important in summer.

Once the paws are clean, you can use the balm mentioned above. Either fats or special paw oils are used for this, which you can also find in our BARF online shop . Simply spread the balm on your dog's paws to create a fine protective layer for hot cobblestones and asphalt paths or sandy beaches. This gives your four-legged friend pleasant heat protection for his paws.

Preventing Injuries

As you have probably already noticed, it is important to care for the pads to prevent injuries. It is also helpful to trim the fur on the paws. Otherwise, the fur between the toes and the pads can quickly become matted, which can be a real challenge when walking. Small animals and parasites also enjoy thick fur, which they can be carried between. By trimming the fur, you are also helping to protect against mites, ticks, etc. Incidentally, there are some tick sprays that can also help you care for your dog's paws and are of course also suitable for other parts of the body.

Dog shoes are particularly effective against injuries and provide special heat protection for your dog. These are helpful in both winter and summer to keep foreign objects away from the pads, toes and the spaces between the toes. This means your dog's paws are protected all around.
