Cat is picky when eating BARF - haustierkost.de

The cat is picky about eating and you don't know what's wrong? The little four-legged friends are considered divas anyway and have a reputation for educating their owners rather than the other way around. If BARF comes into play, it can be a long process for you. Especially when switching to raw feeding, cats like to look at you as if you've gone mad. However, there are a few tips and tricks you can use to get your house cat excited about biologically appropriate food. The cat is picky about eating? This is what you can do about it.

Cat is picky when eating BARF – this is how raw feeding works!

Is your cat picky about eating BARF? Then remember that you don't have to start from scratch. It is completely sufficient to offer the raw meat as a supplement to the usual dry or wet food. For example, buy some organic beef goulash or chicken breast in one piece and put small pieces of it in the food bowl. You can also feed the raw meat directly from your hand to check the initial reaction. Does your four-legged friend grab the piece? Great! Then you can continue in small steps.

In the first few days, you can experiment with individual types of prey. Is your cat fussy about eating goat again? No problem - just offer it the familiar piece of poultry again. You can replace up to 20 percent of the portions with BARF. The important thing is that you stick to the change and don't suddenly offer only dry or wet food again. At the end of the day, cats are creatures of habit and are only too happy to fall back into old patterns.

If after a week or two you start to fill up more than 20 percent of the portions with BARF, it is time to look into food supplements for cats . Basically, vitamins A, B, D and E as well as iron and calcium are very important. You are welcome to consult with the staff at your veterinary practice to find the optimal mix. To start with, however, our ready-made BARF for cats will help. With the ready-made BARF, the cat receives a balanced mix of meat, offal, vegetables and supplements. You mix this into the bowl accordingly and gradually increase the proportion until your four-legged friend finally only eats BARF. In our BARF shop you can order both ready-made BARF for cats and individual foods in order to experiment with the various types of prey and put together your own BARF menus.

A few lines earlier we mentioned that you can feed your cat by hand to test its reaction. If the reaction is negative at this point, there are also a few tricks you can use to outsmart your four-legged friend. For example, lightly fry the BARF meat or let it simmer. Cats often react more positively to lukewarm food. Or you can awaken the cat's hunting instinct by "accidentally" dropping a piece of chicken breast when preparing the food, which the house cat will ideally pounce on with joy. It can also help to simply leave the room so that BARF and cat can get used to each other in peace.

Regardless of whether you ultimately use ready-made BARF for your cat or prepare an individual feeding plan with specially selected ingredients - the cat is often picky about eating BARF at the beginning. Stay positive and trust the process, then you will overcome this small hurdle.
