Clean feeding is a concept of species-appropriate feeding for dogs that is very similar to BARF. It goes back to Anke Jobi, a certified nutritionist for dogs and author of the book "Clean Feeding - Feeding Dogs Naturally". In principle, clean feeding is reminiscent of clean eating for us humans, which involves eating mainly whole foods and avoiding industrially processed foods. Artificial additives as well as excessive salt and lots of sugar are largely excluded from this form of diet. Clean feeding for dogs is based on the same principle. You can find out exactly what clean feeding can look like for your dog in the BARF guide from haustierkost.de .
Clean Feeding for Dogs – Like Clean Eating for Humans
Clean feeding for dogs means that fresh, sustainable and natural food ends up in the bowl. The food is therefore as unprocessed as possible and ideally comes from regional, seasonal and species-appropriate animal husbandry. Classic dog food usually falls through the cracks because it often contains numerous flavorings, colorings and preservatives as well as thickeners and emulsifiers. Nevertheless, canned meat can also be clean. The key thing is to look at the list of ingredients. If it is long and full of foreign words, the food is most likely not suitable for clean feeding of the dog.
Basically, supporters ensure that their dog's food has a balanced composition. Animal foods such as meat, eggs and dairy products make up around half of a meal. These are supplemented by 30 to 40 percent fruit and vegetables and ten to 20 percent carbohydrates. Individual nutritional supplements such as herbs for dogs and food oil are also added. The exact quantities for clean feeding to meet requirements can vary from dog to dog, but are generally not taken into account. Rather, the high quality of the individual ingredients and their sensible composition play an important role in this method of feeding. For example, it is occasionally conceivable for a meal to consist of rice and vegetables if there is no meat in the house, because in this case the animal's organism can cope with slight fluctuations in nutrients without immediately leading to a deficiency. Nevertheless, we recommend supplementing certain vitamins and minerals for dogs to be on the safe side in the long term. These include calcium, vitamin D and iodine, for example.
Clean Feeding: How is it different from BARF?
It is therefore primarily about the quality and origin of all the individual foods, while when BARFing dogs , the focus is clearly on the BARF meat in addition to the quality: raw beef , poultry for dogs , horse meat , offal , etc. make up the largest component in the food bowl. This corresponds to a share of around 80 percent, to which 20 percent is added plant-based food - for example in the form of grain-free BARF flakes or pureed fruit and vegetables .
Feed your dog naturally – with high-quality food
Whether BARF or clean feeding: feeding your dog naturally is always based on species-appropriate and healthy individual components of the food. With BARF dog food from our BARF shop, both feeding methods can be combined to some extent. Our products therefore meet the highest quality standards, as they are subject to veterinary supervision and originally come from food production. By processing them further, we ensure that the animals slaughtered for this purpose are used in their entirety. Most of this takes place in EU-certified feed companies in North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate and Schleswig-Holstein.
