Algae lime

Algae lime

Reading time < 1 minute

Algae lime is often included in BARF to increase the pet's calcium intake. Dogs need a calcium-phosphorus ratio of 1.3:1. Raw BARF meat contains more phosphorus than calcium, which is why algae lime can create a balance in BARF for dogs. You can simply mix algae lime in powder form into your dog's existing BARF dog food . For example, you can balance out the phosphorus in 500 grams of beef with two level measuring spoons of algae lime in the BARF. However, note that you may have already balanced out an excess of phosphorus with the other ingredients. Bone mash, for example, also provides a natural calcium intake.

For an overview, take a look at the BARF calculator from haustierkost.de . Here you will find an individual feeding table for your dog, which you can adapt to the amount of food, body weight, meat content and the total amount of food. This way you can see at a glance how much calcium your four-legged friend needs and can take algae lime into account for your dog accordingly.
